Code of Conduct

1. Player/Dribbler/Trainer Code of Conduct

a. Play by the rules.
b. Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your captain coach or manager approach the official during a break or after the competition.
c. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials and sledging other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in any sport.
d. Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team. Your performance will benefit, so will you.
e. Be a good sport. Applaud all good plays whether your team or the opposition makes them.
f. Treat all participants in your sport as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor.
g. Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition.
h. Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches.
i. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
j. It is an expectation that all players train with their team on a weekly basis.

2. Parent Code of Conduct
a. Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment, not your
b. Encourage children to participate, do not force them.
c. Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
d. Encourage children always to play according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence.
e. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
f. Remember that children learn best by example. g. Appreciate good performances and skilful plays by all participants.
h. Support all efforts to remove verbal or physical abuse from sporting activities.
i. Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.
j. Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate.
k. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
l. It is an expectation that all players train with their team on a weekly basis. If unable to attend training it is the parent’s responsibility to communicate with the coach to explain the absence.

3. Coaches Code of Conduct

a. Remember that young people participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun.
b. Never ridicule or yell at a young player for making a mistake or not coming first.
c. Be reasonable in your demands on players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
d. Operate within the rules and spirit of basketball and teach the players to do the same.
e. Ensure that the time players spend with you is a positive experience. All young people are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.
f. Avoid overplaying the talented players; the just average need and deserve equal time.
g. Display control, respect and professionalism to all involved. This includes opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators. Encourage you players to do the same.
h. Show concern and caution toward sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition.
i. Any physical contact with a young person should be appropriate to the situation and necessary for the player’s skill development.
j. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
k. It is an expectation that all players train with their team on a weekly basis. If a player is continually absent from training and there has been no communication from the parent the coach will contact the committee for advice.

TRAINING AND GAME DAY VENUES

To accommodate the increased number of teams we now field, we utilise 6 different training venues, with the main venue being Parkdale Secondary College. They are:

St Louis Primary School Aspendale, 37 Dolphin Street, Aspendale
St Bede’s College, 2 Mentone Parade, Mentone
Mentone Girls Secondary College, Balcombe & Charman Road, Mentone
Mordialloc Secondary College, 1 Station Street, Mordialloc

Please note that each Venue comes with its own set of guidelines and procedures – without these training facilities, our children have nowhere to train, so please respect these venues and adhere to the guidelines provided.

Parkdale Secondary College
• Enter via the lane to the rear carpark to enter the facility.
• Please do not wear shoes that will scratch the surface or leave scuff marks. No stiletto heels are allowed.
• Players/visitors are not permitted to bring in their own balls. Balls brought to the Stadium will be confiscated and returned at the end of training/game session.
• No food or drink (other than bottled water) is allowed in the stadium. There is a café with suitable seating located out the front of the Stadium.
• Please keep siblings and small children under close supervision. Siblings/small children running around risk being hit and injured by a basketball.

Mentone Girls Secondary College
• Please enter and exit via the main foyer entrance and the pedestrian gate opposite.
• Please take no food into the Court
• No high heels, black soled shoes or workman’s boots as this will mark the Court
• While you are able to take basketballs, please make sure that the balls aren’t being bounced against walls
• Where siblings are at training, please ensure that they are not running around the school and they are being mindful of others at the school
• Be respectful of School property, including gardens
• Access to the new gym and timber floor studio is not permitted.

TEAM SELECTION POLICY

Team Selection will commences once the registration has closed and will be done in conjunction with coaches feedback, grading notes (grading will occur in the last 5 weeks of the season), and the committee operations managers’.

Decisions are based upon the following principles:
– Players placed in sides based upon age and will only be considered for older age groups where place available
– Players will be selected in teams based upon similar ability and with a focus on team balance
– Subject to points 1 & 2, continuity of teams will be considered as part of the selection process
– Priority for selection of players in teams will be given to existing players
– Teams will be a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 8 players
– Changes to the team selection principles can be changed the discretion of the committee

If you wish to raise any issues regarding your child and team inclusion please put them in writing to the Secretary via email secretary@parkdalepacers.org, by close of registrations for consideration by the Committee.
